Welcome to the James P. Humphrey Sidney-Shelby County Black Achievers Scholarship Committee (BASC) website. The BASC, founded in 1987, is dedicated to providing financial assistance to deserving Black students who wish to continue their education after high school.
The BASC strives to assist as many students as possible. To date, we have provided over $252,000.00 in scholarships to 181 Sidney or Shelby County graduates.

Making A Difference!
Pamela Lucas Whaley, a member of the first Black Achievers scholarship class in 1987, said that “in my current position at the City of Orlando, I enjoy helping people learn about business services available and the importance of community partnerships. My educational pursuits would not have been possible without generous support from scholarship sponsors like your organization.”
Kendall Lee, a 1988 Sidney High School graduate, said that “this scholarship affords students the opportunity to continue their education. . . . I would like to thank the Black Achievers Scholarship Committee for giving a small-town kid an opportunity to train my mind and see the world.”
Kenleigh Immel, who graduated from Sidney High School in 2012, said that she “wouldn’t have been off to such a great start without the opportunity that the BASC gave me and has continued to give. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t acknowledge and appreciate the help that has made it possible for me to make it this far in my education.”

I was recently offered a position at Wendy’s Corporate Fitness Center as their Exercise Specialist! I have waited for this position to open since I interned there in college.
